Four charged with Ying Xin’s murder
JOHOR BARU: Four suspects including three teenagers were charged at the magistrate’s court here with the kidnap and murder of 16-year-old Lai Ying Xin.
They were produced in a courtroom packed with people including relatives and friends of the murder victim.
Only hairstylist Teh Kim Hong, 22, was produced at the dock for the charge, while the other three - a 17-year-old and two 16-year-olds - remained standing by the side of the courtroom.
In the first charge, they allegedly intentionally murdered Ying Xin between 9.45pm on Sept 11 and 12am on Sept 12 at Lot 2841, Jalan Alor, Bukit Kulai in Kulai Jaya.
They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty upon conviction.
In the second charge, they were alleged to have kidnapped Ying Xin at around 9.45pm in front of a hypermarket along Jalan Kulai-Air Hitam in Kulai Jaya with the intention of demanding a ransom of RM60,000.
Under Section 3 of the Kidnapping Act 1961, Act 365 and Section 34 of the Penal Code, those found guilty of kidnapping can be sentenced to death or face life imprisonment. If not sentenced to death, they can be caned.
When the charges were read out in Mandarin, all four suspects nodded their heads to signal they understood the charge.
No plea was recorded for either charge.
Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib prosecuted.
Magistrate Nor Shahid Abd Malik set Dec 10 for mention pending the chemist and post mortem reports.

Friends’ heart-wrenching tribute to Ying Xin

Those were the heart-wrenching words of Lee Sher Lin and Chin Hui Ni, both 16, who read an eulogy at the the funeral service for their best friend and classmate Lai Ying Xin, who was kidnapped and murdered on Sept 11.
”We have been best friends for four years and it is very hard to lose her.
”We want to be strong for her in carrying on with our lives but it will be hard,” said Sher Lin.

About 200 schoolmates, friends and immediate family members, including Yin Xin’s sisters Ying Hui, 20, and Ying Xian, 18 and brother-in-law Alex Wong, 28, attended the funeral held at the Hainan Association in Kulai.
Her parents Chia Siew Phen, 45, and Then Song, 48, did not attend due to their cultural beliefs.
Ying Xin’s body was then taken to the Perpetual Memorial Park in Kulai for cremation at about 11.30am yesterday.
Che Ling (Chinese Yoyo) Association instructor Phang Hai Dong, 50, said Ying Xin, who was an association member, was very gifted in playing the yoyo and she was always eager to share her talents with others.
”She joined the association since she was in Year Six. I am amazed with her talents,” he said,
Phang said 30 association members did a performance at the funeral in memory of Ying Xin.
Bukit Batu assemblyman Cheong Chin Liang, who attended the services, offered his condolences to the family and vowed that crime prevention efforts would be stepped up in the neighbourhood.
He said community policing would be conducted in Taman Puteri in Kulai and a police booth would be set up at the housing area soon. Four suspects have been detained and remanded until Sunday for investigations into Ying Xin’s murder.

家人在她失蹤後，曾經接獲索取約6萬令吉贖金的電話。警方接獲投報展開調查後，迅速逮捕了嫌犯，不過賴映興被尋回時已經死亡。
涉嫌綁票、謀害及燒屍的4名16至22歲的嫌犯，上週一（15日）在古來一帶遭警方逮捕。警方在嫌犯的指引下，於古來公主城僻靜的草叢處，發現已被焚燒的肉票屍體。

（柔佛‧新山）隨著脫氧核糖核酸報告確定了身份，慘遭殺害的16歲校花賴映興的遺體週一（9月22日）下午終於由家屬領出。映興的家屬還特別為生前熱愛舞蹈的她準備了一套連身的白紗舞裙入殮，並用一雙舞鞋陪葬。
女死者家屬於週一下午5時10分到新山中央醫院太平間辦理領屍手續。到來的家屬，包括死者父親賴添送、母親謝秀萍、大姐、大姐夫，以及二姐等人。
謝秀萍在太平間受訪時表示，這套白色的連身紗裙是女死者的好友所贈送。
她透露，死者年紀很輕，不可停柩過久，因此只能停柩於古來的海南會館3天。接著，死者將於9月24日（週三）早上進行火化，最後安葬於萬富山莊。

JOHOR BARU: A 16-year-old schoolgirl who was kidnapped last Friday was found murdered with her partially-burnt body dumped in some bushes.
Police found the semi-decomposed body of Lai Ying Xin (pic) at 1.40am yesterday in Taman Putri, Kulai.It is learnt that she might have been kidnapped by people known to her and police were pursuing several leads, including that one of the suspects may have been the victim’s ex-boyfriend.
Johor deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm (I) Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said police believe Ying Xin had been murdered even before the kidnappers demanded ransom.
He said Ying Xin, the third of four siblings, was kidnapped outside a hypermarket after 9pm on Friday where she had been working as a part-time sales girl.
“The victim’s mother lodged a police report the following morning when the kidnappers called at 6.20am and demanded a ransom,” SAC Tun Hisan told a press conference yesterday at the state police headquarters.

Ying Xin’s father owns a car repair workshop while her mother is a housewife.
Police have ruled out the involvement of Ah Long.
It is learnt that the kidnappers demanded RM60,000 but family members only managed to raise RM30,000, which was dropped off at an undisclosed location at about 3am on Monday.
Police detained seven suspects in Kulai on Monday but released three of them after questioning.
The remaining four, aged between 16 and 22 years, are odd-job workers and have been remanded until Sept 21 to assist investigations.
Police recovered two-thirds of the ransom money and a silver Perodua Kembara.
SAC Tun Hisan said after questioning the suspects, police were able to locate the victim’s body, which was then sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital mortuary.
The autopsy report revealed that the victim had been strangled before her body was set on fire. It also found that she had not been raped.
Her family members arrived at the mortuary at 3.30pm to identify the body.
The five people left about 30 minutes later.

KULAI: She was a jovial girl who always smiled at her brother-in-law and called him “jie fu” (brother-in-law). That was how Alex Wong, 28, remembers his 16-year-old sister-in-law Lai Ying Xin who was kidnapped and brutally killed last Friday.

“The last time I saw her was on Sept 5 when I bumped into her having tea with some friends at a cafe at Taman Indahpura,” he said in between tears, adding that she worked part-time to help ease the financial burden of the family.
He also said the family had prepared for the worst when the kidnappers refused to let them hear Ying Xin’s voice when they called.
Wong said one of the suspects had called them to console them and asked about the victim.
He added that through the victim’s friends and colleagues they learnt that the suspect had courted his sister-in-law but she rejected him.
The victim’s mother, Chia Siew Phen, 45, said Ying Xin was a very filial daughter.
“It is hard to find such a filial daughter these days. I hope that justice will prevail and the criminals punished for the crime,” she told MCA president and Kulai MP Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting, who visited the family yesterday.
Ong said he was saddened and angry when he learnt about the tragedy.
“A teenager with a bright future has been killed cruelly and this has enraged the entire society.
“I contacted the Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff and had his guarantee that police will explore every angle in the investigation,” he said.
Ong also called for more crime-prevention efforts.
Kulai Jaya OCPD Supt Zulkifli Yahya said they were still doing the DNA compilation and thus the body had not been returned to the family yet.
Ong told the victim’s family to be patient and let the police perform their duty thoroughly.
Ying Xin’s partially-burnt body was found in some bushes in Taman Putri, Kulai, on Tuesday.
Four suspects have been detained to assist in investigations.

I DID not know who Lai Ying Xin was. Until a few days ago, 16 year-old Lai Ying Xin was not known to anyone except her family and friends.
Today, the whole nation is shocked and angry over what had happened to her.
Her untimely and cruel death has affected my wife and I as we have three children of our own.
Is our neighborhood not safe for our children anymore? Are the schools not safe for our children anymore? Are our children’s school friends not to be trusted anymore?
I am totally dumbfounded over what might have caused of Ying Xin’s abduction and murder.
I don’t know where our society went wrong. I am at lost as to who is to be blamed. I have no suggestion on how we can prevent this kind of thing from happening again.
Over the years, there have been a number of abduction, rape and murder cases involving children and teens.
I feel despair upon seeing the disintegration of security and humanity in our neighborhood.
We used to be able to leave the doors of our homes unlocked and walk the street at night without worry or fear.
Please, someone, anyone - do something. We shall do it together for the sake of our children and children’s children.

KLUANG: Squabbles between leaders especially within Umno must be stopped for the Government to move forward, said Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Tun Hussein.
He said the squabbling was what Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Opposition wanted to see in Umno.
“Such issues, including calls for former de-facto Law Minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim to be stripped of his senator’s post, should not be entertained.
“I myself want to focus on my work for the benefit of the people,” he said after representing the Deputy Prime Minister at an event for Felda settlers in conjunction with the Ramadan month at Felda Ulu Dengar yesterday.
On the kidnap and murder of 16-year-old Lai Ying Xin, Hishamuddin said he had ordered the ministry’s security committee to conduct a complete investigation.

KOTA TINGGI: Two murders have taken place in the state for the most peculiar of reasons.
One Myanmar worker was stabbed to death for ticking off a fellow colleague for being lazy at work while another man was killed by his brother over a sour plum.
Myint Aung, 31, was stabbed in the stomach and was found dead in a pool of blood in a house in Taman Anggerik in Bandar Tenggara.
Police caught three Myanmars in a forest about 2km away several hours after the stabbing.
However, the main suspect in the stabbing is still on the run.
In the second case, police arrested a 24-year-old man who stabbed his 20-year-old brother in a fight over a sour plum.
He said the man was detained until Sept 27.
Meanwhile, Johor police have obtained an extension on the remand of the four suspects detained in the kidnap and murder of Lai Ying Xin.
The extension is up to Sept 28. Police are waiting for the DNA test results.

Chia Siew Phen, 45, said that her 16-year-old daughter’s body would be placed at the Hainan Association for prayers before she would be cremated at Ban Foo Crematorium in Kulai on Wednesday.
”We want her soul to rest in peace as we love her very much.
”Her close friends even gave her a lovely dress and a pair of shoes for the funeral,” she said, adding that she missed her daughter a lot.
Among others who were at the mortuary were the victim’s family members including her father and two sisters.
Chia added that she hoped those responsible for her daughter’s death would be be brought to justice.
Meanwhile Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff confirmed that the DNA of the body matched that of Ying Xin's.
”We will forward the report to the Deputy Public Prosecutor and await his advice.

古来16岁貌美 校花遭4名男性友人掳走 惨遭杀害
綁架 軟禁 殺害 燒屍 勒索校花遭撕票（新山17日訊）綁架、軟禁、殺人、燒屍、勒索！一名成績優秀的貌美16歲女生，遭4名相熟男性友人擄走殺害，裸屍棄在荒地焚燒；兇手事后還向其家人勒索“贖金”！案發后，警方迅速破案，逮捕4名嫌犯歸案，惟警方不願回應其中一名嫌犯是否死者男友。疑家屬付贖金前遇害警方指出，儘管兇徒一度向死者家屬勒索一筆錢，惟不排除最初動機並非單純的綁架勒索，而是有意圖殺人。據知，少女相信是在家屬繳付贖金前已遇害。有指她是在被綁當天便殺害。警方列此案為謀殺案處理，同時展開多角度調查。死者為賴映興（古來蘇丹依布拉欣國中中四生，住古來埔萊花園），生前在購物廣場服飾店兼職任銷售員。據了解，死者不但長相貌美，成績在校內也數一數二，但家境不富裕；她是在兼職放工后，慘遭相識人士擄走殺害。據聞，綁匪曾向死者家屬勒索6萬令吉贖金，惟警方不願證實數目。另也有消息指兇徒勒索3萬3000令吉。未證實的消息也指，死者被發現時，身體一半已被燒毀和腐爛，全身赤裸。警方需待解剖報告，才能證實死者是否曾遭性侵犯。柔州副總警長拿督頓希山今日召開記者會指出，死者于上週四（11日）晚上約10時放工后，在古來再也的某購物廣場前被擄。他說，死者屍體是于今日凌晨1時40分，在嫌犯帶領下，在古來再也區的公主花園草叢區尋獲。他指出，死者失蹤后，家屬于翌日清晨6時20分接獲匪徒致電勒索，警方同時接獲死者家人投報。警方遂成立特別隊伍調查，家屬于本月13日凌晨3時，把贖金交給匪徒。隨后，警方依據線索，成功于本月15日清晨6時15時至7時，陸續在古來再也一帶截捕4名綁匪、一輛國產肯巴拉轎車，並起獲贖金。華裔綁匪年齡從16至22歲，全數輟學，與死者相識。安慰事主勸速交贖金1嫌犯露破綻其中一名嫌犯疑佯裝“好人”，在女生被擄失蹤后，陪伴在側安慰女生父母，也勸說兩老盡速交贖金保住女兒性命，結果露出馬腳，引起家屬懷疑。消息指出，4名嫌犯中，有一人認識死者的父母，甚至在賴氏夫婦接獲匪徒致電勒索后，陪伴在側安慰。由于這名嫌犯一直遊說賴氏夫婦盡快繳贖金，最終引起兩老懷疑，使到警方更快掌握綁匪身分。同時，據悉，匪徒一直更換繳付贖金地點，其中一地點更落在新山金海灣，惟匪也沒在金海灣交易。最終，雙方交易時間定為本月13日凌晨3時，但警方不願透露地點位置。由于死者並非富裕家庭，有消息指出，匪徒要求6萬令吉贖金，惟家人最終僅籌得3萬令吉交付給綁匪。據悉，今日記者會上，警方僅展示贖金的三分之二，全數100令吉現鈔，估計有逾2萬令吉。4地點幹獸行死者相信在4個不同地點被擄、軟禁、殺害和燒屍。警方指出，死者被燒屍的地點，相信不是遭殺害的第一案發現場。他說，被擄、軟禁、殺害和燒屍地點都落在古來再也區一帶，但地點不同。警方不排除，因死者認識綁匪，匪徒幹案時，一早就動了殺機，避免之后被認出。針對死者致死原因，警方有待解剖報告才知。惟警方初步估計，死者死亡時間超過24小時，不排除死者在被擄當天就遇害。1嫌犯迷戀死者遭拒愛疑因愛成恨策劃擄人求愛不遂引殺機？4名嫌犯中，其中一人被指是死者的男友或追求者。坊間消息指出，4名年齡16歲至22歲的華裔落網嫌犯，其中一名迷戀死者已久，卻遭死者拒愛。一般相信，男子因愛成恨，與另3名同伴策劃擄人，甚至間中對死者施暴，殺害死者后再向家屬勒索。惟消息均未獲警方證實，警方也不願針對其中一名嫌犯是否是死者男友置評。警方于本月15日傍晚6時15分，在古來再也區截停一輛國產肯巴拉轎車，逮捕3名17歲至22歲的嫌犯，從中起獲贖金；接著，警方又在公主花園逮捕16歲嫌犯。間中，警方曾在古來逮捕3名16歲至20歲的華裔青年，惟事后證實3人與案件無關被釋放。警方援引1961年綁架法令第3條文調查此案，一旦罪成將被判死刑或終身監禁。目前，警方援引117延長扣留法令將4名嫌犯延長扣留6天，至本月21日，4人未有任何犯罪記錄。臥屍處發現深坑不排除用來燒屍（古來16日訊）臥屍地點有1尺深坑，並有焚燒痕跡。本報記者今日前往臥屍地點了解情況，發現位于古來公主花園的臥屍地點，為一空地，雜草叢生。警方已用“黃線”圍起的禁區內，有一深坑，坑洞有焚燒痕跡，不排除是匪徒挖掘用來作燒屍用途，企圖毀屍滅跡。臥屍地點位于古來收費站往聯邦大道的路段旁，即IOI （柔佛‧新山）16歲國中校花被綁架後慘遭匪徒下毒手，兇徒把她殺害後，還焚屍毀跡！來自古來著名國中的中四女學生賴映興，於9月11日晚上9時許，在古來某購物廣場門外被擄走後行蹤成謎，直至事發第5天的今日（週二，9月16日），警方證實她已遇害。整起事件從擄人、軟禁、交贖金和殺害人質、燒屍的過程，都在古來多個不同地點，卻都是距離不遠之處發生。涉案者年齡16至20歲令人駭然的是，涉案者是年齡介於16歲至20歲的青年人。警方相信，嫌犯在擄走死者賴映興之後，便將她軟禁在一處，接着在不久後就將她殺害，並且把屍體帶到另一處焚燒，之後仍然繼續向家屬勒索贖金。同學指死者品學兼優賴映興的同學形容她生前是位品學兼優的學生，她成績好、人緣好，也曾活躍於扯鈴活動。映興的同學週二受詢時表示，死者為人很好，也很慷慨，經常請他們吃快餐及看電影，是個人緣很好的學生。“她的成績很好，去年的初中評估考試，她考獲7個A，課外活動也不錯，特別是扯鈴表演。”賴映興好朋友之一的李同學表示，她每天都有與映興互傳短訊，她最後一次看到映興，是上週四在學校。“過後，映興便沒有來上課，我們是在週六聽說她被綁架。現在才從記者口中聽說她經被撕票。”另一方面，提到映興的男友時，他們表示這是映興的隱私，他們不瞭解。放學後打工賺零用錢據悉，映興尚有2名姐姐及1名弟弟，由於生於小康之家，放學後便出外打工賺取零用錢。死者生前在古來莊園購物中心一家服裝店打工，由於乖巧聽話且擅於招呼顧客，備受雇主喜愛。賴映興小學畢業於古來二校，在小六評估考試獲得6A1B的佳績，從六年級開始參與學校的扯鈴隊，雖然她在升上國中後仍繼續參與扯鈴活動，惟今年由於打工的關係，開始退出這項課外活動。也有消息說，中學時，憑著她優秀的成績，映興原本已被古來一所特選學校錄取，過後選擇就讀歷史悠久的古來名校蘇丹依布拉欣國中。除了成績表現良好，美貌的映興也是學校公認的校花。被擄當晚家屬報警死者家屬在賴映興被擄走的當晚，因為久不見她回家，便直接向警方報案。隔天清晨6時20分許，家屬才接到綁匪來電勒索。警方過後連日追查此案，並且在家屬於15日凌晨3時許交出贖金後，分別在當天下午6時15分至7時15分1小時內，連續逮捕7名年齡分別為16歲至22歲的年輕嫌犯。柔佛州副總警長拿督頓希山週二在州刑事調查組第一副主任尤索夫和此案調查官默斯拉陪同下召開新聞發佈會時，證實上述消息。屍棄古來公主城附近空地兇徒毀屍的地點，就位於通往古來收費站的主幹公路旁，是一片正在發展中的空地，毀屍處距離主幹公路有100米左右。這塊空地平常人煙稀少，缺乏公德心的人把它當作垃圾場。數個月前，附近住宅區的居民曾投訴經常有人把疑為化學物質的垃圾丟棄在這裡，導致附近一帶的空氣嚴重受污染。另一方面，由於死者相信已經斃命多天，屍體發出惡臭，棄屍處一帶也瀰漫着濃烈的臭味。4嫌犯落網‧一人和死者相識柔佛州副總警長拿督頓希山證實其中一名嫌犯和死者是相識的，唯他沒有進一步確認死者和該名嫌犯之間的關係。他表示，相信涉案嫌犯全部已經落網，被逮捕的4名嫌犯年齡介於16至22歲，所有嫌犯皆已輟學，沒有犯罪前科，週二全被延扣至9月21日。警方在逮捕嫌犯以及扣查嫌犯所乘坐的轎車時，沒有發現任何凶器，至截稿為止，嫌犯的幹案動機和殺人動機不明。警方現在已經將起回的贖金送往鑑證科進行採指模程序。他說，警方初步調查相信死者未受人侵犯，死因未明，有待屍體解剖報告出爐才知曉。他表示，死者生前除了樣貌出眾，也是聰明的學生，學業成績優異。死者疑認出兇手遭滅口此案調查官默斯拉受訪時表示，警方不排除死者認出兇手以及與其中一名幹案者相識，而遭人滅口。他說，嫌兇是在多個地點幹案，包括軟禁和燒屍地點。校花被撕票案情演進表9月11日晚上9時至10時許：
